Yacoby drew inspiration from her place of residence – the Negev desert. The surrounding desert was a fertile ground for the birth of ancient religions in the past, and has continued to be an environment conducive for ceremonies of various sects and communities to this day. Throughout her artistic career, Yacoby has grappled with spiritual issues, and her work is informed by themes drawn from an assortment of religions and beliefs. Yacoby worked not only at the geographic fringes of the country (which is itself in the periphery of the global art world), but tackled issues that have been marginalized in the discourse of Israeli art. Her persistent preoccupation with such issues is particularly notable when viewed today with the re-emergence of spirituality in contemporary art in mind.
